Rurouni Kenshin Series

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The fictional setting takes place during the early Meiji period in Japan. The story is about a fictional assassin named Himura Kenshin, formerly known as the "Hitokiri Battousai" or "Battousai the Manslayer" who becomes a wanderer to protect the people from Japan. Being a fan of the Shinsengumi, Watsuki designed the characters by basing their characteristics to that of real Shinsengumi members and also used fictional representation of them and other historical characters from the Bakumatsu period of Japan.

The manga initially appeared in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump from September 2, 1994, to November 4, 1999. The complete work consists of 28 tankoubon volumes. Two years ago, the island's cherry trees lost this ability and all became ordinary cherry trees that bloom only in the spring. Jun'ichi Asakura is now a graduating senior at Kazami Academy, and is surrounded by many close friends, old and new alike. On a stormy summer day, a mysterious young girl, Aisia, arrives at Jun'ichi's door. She is looking for Sakura's grandmother to study magic, ultimately hoping to bring happiness to everyone. When she discovers that grandmother Yoshino had long since passed away, she joyfully assumes (thanks to his error in judgment) that Jun'ichi is able to teach her. Even though she finally understands that the only magic he's capable of is conjuring Japanese confections, Aisia continues her search for magic on Hatsune-Jima. Amid the chaos of her search, Kazami Academy hires new medical staff.

The protagonist, Yoshiyuki Sakurai, was born when Sakura Yoshino, weary of being alone for so long, wished upon a prototype artificial wish-granting magical sakura tree for a family. Similar to its predecessor, the story takes place on the same island, Hatsune-Jima, in Japan, and set fifty-three years after the original anime. The Asakura sisters are the granddaughters of Jun'ichi Asakura and Nemu Asakura from the first Da Capo. Sakura Yoshino and Jun'ichi are the only returning characters, and Nemu is the only other character to be mentioned by name.
